Equifax.

Equifax was formerly known as the Retail Credit Company. It is an organization widely used by insurers to obtain information on applicants for underwriting purposes and sometimes on claims. Their reports are known as Retail Credit Reports.

Since its founding in 1899, Equifax has evolved into a leader in enabling and securing global commerce, bringing buyers and sellers together worldwide. Equifax enables and secures global commerce through its information management, consumer credit, marketing services, business information, authentication and e-commerce business
How does Equifax get information? Mainly from the companies that have granted you credit in the past, and those with whom you have open accounts.

Each creditor reports the status of your account to us according to your payment history. Other sources are banks, retailers, collection agencies and public records from courthouses.
